Description

Sh2-129 Flying Bat and OU4 Squid nebulae in Cepheus. It is a large but very faint complex. The blue squid (Oxygen III) is extremely hard to capture. The red bat is mostly Hydrogen-alpha and Sulfur II. Stars are RGB.

This is a really challenging target. I tried several times over the past years, but was never able to get a decent image of the squid. I decided to try again with my new Tak Baby Q. It was much better, but even after about 12 hours of OIII using prime focus with flattener and APS-C sensor (ASI2600MM), I wasn't happy with the result. So, I decided to try using the x0.73 reducer to boost scope to f/3.8 and chose the ASI294MM camera since the field size with reducer was very close to the previously captured data.

This is the best I have managed so far, I tried adding Ha as Lum to bring out more of the bat, but it seemed to overpower the squid. I will probably try it again next year.
